Examples of Problems

Fractured Tooth

This picture shows a lower left fractured 4/3 lower corner incisor before treatment

Fractured Incisor

The picture here is of the exact same tooth repaired using epoxy. This is the same substance that is used with human teeth

Horse Tooth Trauma

Trauma in a 2 year old horse. Already the lower teeth tha have no opposition are starting to cause a problem as they have more clinical crown than those with opposition. This causes the mouth to loose function. The tooth fragments were removed from the injured aread and high teeth reduced in height

4 Year old
These next two photos are of the same horse pictured above that had received trauma as a 2 year old. These are him as a 4 1/2 year old. The horse did not receive the recommended maintenance at six monthly intervals so the picture shows why it is so important to stick to the program. When originally seen as a 2 year old we did not know, without x-rays, whether the developing permanent teeth had been damaged. Fortunately he ended up only missing one permanent incisor but you can see how the lower tooth has a greater clinical crown height as it has no opposition or wear. This is a problem and affects the function, comfort and performance of the horse. Regular dental maintenance would have prevented this.

4 Year old after treatment
The second photo is the same horse after treatment. He had the height of his incisors adjusted, his lower corner caps removed and another fragment removed from the traumatized area, hence the blood.
